Week 7: Visual Writing - Content Review

Research Task:

For this weeks task I referred to sources I would use as freelance designer in order to get my work published or put into production.

When considering self-publishing, designers in this day and age have a variety of platforms at their disposal, catering to both digital and physical publication.

One option is to utilise print-on-demand services offered by websites like printed.com and Packhelp.co.uk. These services allow authors to upload their content and have it printed as needed, eliminating the need for large upfront printing costs.

Designers can also create websites or blogs to self-publish their work digitally. By sharing their writing directly with readers and building a following, authors can establish a platform for their work and even sell digital copies directly through their website using e-commerce tools. Squarespace is a brilliant tool for this and there is no need for an understanding of how to code.

Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter can be used for self-publishing shorter pieces or excerpts from longer works. Authors can engage with readers directly, share their writing, and build a community around their work. Now that instagram and Facebook are both owned by Meta it is even easier to use for publishing work using the Meta Business.

However there are also other Applications for social media management like Sprout Social for instance. This tool can allow you to publish to multiple social media accounts at any one time.

Overall, the landscape of self-publishing offers a diverse range of methods and platforms to suit authors' needs and preferences, whether they prefer digital or tangible formats. With numerous options available, authors can effectively self-publish their work and reach their audience.
